Portability is the most significant practical difference. A commercial gel comes in a sealed, tear-open sachet. Honey in a jar is impractical on a football pitch. Honey in a pre-filled small sachet or silicone pouch resolves that problem entirely.

Should Footballers Take Honey After a Match?
